Why work with an agent in your job search? While commonplace for athletes and movie stars, the concept of representation by an agent is foreign to most companies and job seekers, but why? The model works exceptionally well in sports and entertainment. Agents have become an integral part of the business in these respective industries, responsible for identifying and pursuing new opportunities, negotiating salaries and procuring endorsement deals. There is a good reason agents are often the first to be thanked after their client wins an accolade. Furthermore, many hourly employees are represented by agents, in the form of unions that help provide them with better salaries and benefits. So, considering the fact that most people have no idea how to effectively find, pursue and negotiate their chosen job (evidenced by persistently low levels of jobs satisfaction), why shouldn't job seekers have an agent? Why should job seekers be left to manage their search alone?
